Wavecrest launch Tesco’s new Mobile Airtime Recharge feature

Press Release

Wavecrest launch Tesco’s new Mobile Airtime Recharge feature, as part of their highly successful international communications app

London, 10 January 2022 -- Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) organisation, Wavecrest, today announced the launch of a new feature within Tesco’s mobile app, Tesco International Calling. The new feature, called Mobile Airtime Recharge, allows users of the app to top-up prepaid (PAYG) mobiles, across the globe.

The Tesco International Calling app has been supporting consumers in the UK and Ireland for a number of years. It allows them to make international calls at very low rates (from 1p per minute). In addition, the app offers free SMS worldwide and even allows users to earn Clubcard points when they add credit.

The new Mobile Airtime Recharge feature compliments the existing capabilities and is designed to ensure friends and family spread across the globe stay connected. With just a couple of taps, users can add credit, mobile data or minutes bundles to their loved one’s mobile phone, anywhere in the world. The service is simple to use and reliable.

“The new Mobile Airtime Recharge service is ideally suited to users with family members who might otherwise not be able to stay connected, where the cost of mobile services is exceptionally high, relative to income levels.” Said Sam Wilson, Commercial Manager – Telecoms at Tesco. “It’s a natural extension of the current services we already offer in the app.”

The Tesco International Calling app is built and managed by Wavecrest, using their CREATE platform. The platform includes a white-label communications app and other pre-built components. Combined with bespoke development capabilities, Wavecrest is able to take brands and organisations to market quickly, with low capex investment. The app integrates with Wavecrest’s CONNECT platform, delivering global voice, SMS and airtime recharge services with high levels of quality and reliability.

“We’re delighted to have launched this new feature in the Tesco International Calling app. The inclusion of our airtime recharge capabilities increases appeal and drives incremental average revenue per user, of this already highly successful app.” stated Chris Adams, CEO, Wavecrest. “It also demonstrates the synergy and strength of our platforms, to take organisations to market faster with a range of communications products and services.”
